There are a few key things to keep in mind when creating your character.
Don't Supersize!Firstly, what are the chances your character is a seven-foot-something behemoth like Azul? Very small, considering his pointed ears and bright blue hair suggest he's from a nomadic subspecies of human that lives on the frozen tundra. Just because most male characters in the games are well over 6 foot, doesn't mean that's common. If you are completely human, and didn't get pumped full of steroids as a kid, bets are you're somewhere between 4'10 and 6'4, unless you've got some really interesting genetics.
Ranks are Earned, not TakenSecondly, you want to be in a position of power in ShinRa? Well, just like everyone else, you're going to have to earn it. If you want to be more than a base SOLDIER, or a Turk, or a Trooper, or a Secretary, you have to
petition first, don't just claim it. Send a PM to the applicable Staff Member and you'll be responded to as soon as possible, you won't be ignored, and if you're told no, the reasoning will be explained. Depending on the position you want, and whether we know you or not, you will either be approved, or told to keep with a basic position.
Department of Administrative Research - Commander Tseng
SOLDIER - General Sephiroth
Army - General Sephiroth
Civilian Positions - General Sephiroth
Relationships and GodmoddingGodmodding is not permitted, you
cannot control someone else's character (or a canon character that doesn't yet have an account). If you want your char to be friends, or have a rivalry, or hell, even have some sort of "I Hate You-You don't hate me" relationship - TALK TO THE PLAYER. To have a pre-determined relationship, both character's players must agree. You can, however, give someone else permission to type out what your character is doing, as long as it's been discussed beforehand. If you want to accuse someone of godmodding your character, or a character without a player, PM a Staff member.
The Approval ProcessWhen you first submit your character, it will be 'assigned' and perused by a Staff Member for inconsistencies. They will critique you, tell you what you need to adjust to conform to our standards. If your RP Sample is not of sufficient quality, you will be automatically assigned a mentor who will continue to critique your RP posts until they are confident in your skills. Only once a Profile is refined will it enter the next stage - Formatting/Stat Assignment. This stage at the moment, is handled by myself, only. During this stage, I will
lock your submission, and adjust minor issues such as materia slot format, or typos, and then calculate your level, stats, and unlocked Limit Breaks. There's a certain amount of chance involved in the assignment of HP/MP and Stat Points. You will be given the opportunity to assign your Stat Points to your Stats (MAG, VIT, LUC, etc) in a way that correlates with your character. If you do not assign them properly, you will be prompted to adjust them before they can be finalized.
EquipmentCertain positions require you have certain types of equipment.
SOLDIERs, are issued a ShinRa Beta and a SI Broadsword, which can be easily replaced by the company. A SOLDIER, can, however, purchase approved swords out-of-pocket (IE: Mythril Saber, Hardedge.). Only SOLDIER Firsts are allowed to have any sword they wish as long as they can wield it effectively.
Turks, are a little more diverse, but no matter their specialization, they are all equipped with at least one handgun (Quicksilver or Remington 1911), a standard Electro-Mag Rod and a Shinra Beta. Skilled Turks, however (approved by the Director or Commander) will be issued a higher-end bracer, such as a Minerva Band, Escort Guard, or Ziedrich.
As for Materia....please see this list for confirmed Materia available, single-spell materia are not available -
Materia ListHeritageHumans are the predominant race on Gaia, and make up nearly the entire population. Nearly, because approximately 20% of humans have ‘non-human’ ancestors. There are two ‘non-human’ races acknowledged by the staff, the Cetra, and a branch of Cetra who had evolved to better endure the Northern Continent’s climate. There is, however, no such thing as a ‘full-blooded’ Cetra anymore, as all lines have been diluted by relationships with humans.
Of the 20% of humans with Cetran ancestry, nearly all have no idea of their heritage and show no blatant skills. They might be a quick-study in using materia, or have a high MAG score, or be able to cast spells faster than others.
With proper training, these ‘Slightly Cetran’ humans can learn the following abilities:
Freecasting - Casting from a materia without equipping it.
Fusion Spells - Combining different spells to form a unique spell.
Spell-Manipulation - Altering the traditional form/effect of a spell.
Now there are a small percentage of humans who are less human than most. Perhaps one of their great-great-grandparents was part of a group of Cetra who tried to keep the bloodline as strong as possible without inbreeding. Or perhaps, you’re from the northern continent and had a relative in one of those isolated tribes from which the Chocobo Sage and Azul were presumably born of. If you want to go that route... you might have some less than ‘normal’ features that if noticed could get you thrown in a lab, or inducted forcibly into Deepground.
