Name: Zest Grangeitz
Age: 27
Height: 6’2ft
Weight: 221lbs
Gender: Male
Town of Origin: Kalm
Appearance: As a SOLDIER First Class, Zest takes pride in his conditioned body. With his large build people often call him a tank. He was once called the strongest cadet in Shinra before Angeal Hewley defeated him and took his title. His skin is lightly tanned due to his work in the sun when he was younger. He now possesses amber colored eyes due to the mako in his veins. He has short shaggy borwn hair that reaches his neck; a few strands are in front of his face, there is a large strand that hangs between his eyes. Zest wears a traditional SOLDIER First uniform: black pants, sleeveless turtleneck tee, and black zip-up boots. He has the plackart with the SOLDIER insignia. He also wears an old brown trench coat under the shoulder pauldrons. On his right he has his bracer holding a restore and sense, leaving three slots empty for any mission. He ties his weapon to a chain due to its light weight and ease of use. He has a mythril pendant in the shape of a phoenix it hangs around his neck from a black ribbon.
Personality: Over the years within Shinra, Zest has learned to live your life to the fullest, because it can be your last. He is a very open minded person; he takes judgment into his own hands. His loyalty to Shinra is strong but his loyalty to his friends is stronger. As such he only has a close circle of friends. When asked to teach Second or Third Classes Zests takes the time to hammer each student what they need to learn. Some call him the instructor from hell because of his harsh training tactics. Zest has a dry sense of humor, usually serious and stoic unless he’s off duty.
Off Duty he likes to draw the world around him, that is when he lets loose and smiles when he does so. He hates it when someone takes advantage of others. His main reason to becoming a First was to help his parents. Zest is an honest and blunt man; he will tell you if there is something wrong with anything around him. His only goal is to try to resolve this entire mess that is happening in Gaia without getting himself killed.

Bio: Zest was born in small town of Kalm. During his childhood Zest was put to work, he was an errand boy for the miners in the mythril mines. His mother home schooled him in between his work and chores. Zest spent his time practicing reading and writing in the middle of work when none of the miners needed anything. Though Zest worked as much as the miners did, he was happy living with his mother and father. During his time as an errand boy, he was expected to lift heavier equipment. When he was 10 he started to work in the mines himself. When he was 12 his father gave him a small mythril pendant in the shape of a phoenix. He strove to work harder, to learn everything he could. He wanted nothing more than to go to the outside world and become something other than a miner. He wanted to help his parents be better off. When he turned 15 he left home to join the army in hopes to become SOLDIER. On his desk he left a letter of apology and the pendant his father gave him.
Zest was at the bottom of his class when he became a cadet. He spent several nights awake in order to understand the text. The boy was a loner, others were too afraid to get close to him. He only had a few friends in his cadet years. Two of those friends were Angeal Hewley and Genesis Rhaspodos, who were country boys. All three helped each other with their studies, Zest helped them with sword basics, genesis helped him understand materia theory and Angeal helped him with his hand to hand combat.
When Zest was 17 Angeal and Genesis were promoted to 3rd Class and they talked less and less. Zest continued to be an infantry for one more year until he was promoted to 3rd Class.
It was Angeal’s suggestion that Zest should use a spear for its control and its lightness. Angeal helped him talk with his instructor and they place an exception for Zest. He found the spear as a natural extension to his hand rather than a sword which felt stiff in his hands.
From then on Zest worked hard and rose up the ranks trying to become a 1st Class. He finally got promoted to 1st Class at the age of 23. Shinra gave him the rank of Captain while Angeal and Genesis were now Commanders of SOLDIER. The day he made it to 1st Class he received a letter from his father stating that his mother had passed away. Inside the envelope were two things: the phoenix pendant and a black ribbon that his mother wore. Zest modified the ribbon so that it could hold on to the pendant and placed it around his neck.
After he was a First he was sent to Wuntai to protect one of the forts Shinra has build there. Angeal and Genesis wrote to him from time to time but Zest felt it was for the best, they were busy taking care of the Army with General Sephiroth. He fought with his comrades as a SOLDIER First Class.
Once he was allowed to come home Zest filed for a temporary leave to visit his father. When he got there his father was worn out from his years in the mines. Zest got on his knees and asked for forgiveness that he never came home, that he wasn’t here for his mother’s funeral. His father punched him in the face and told him to stop sobbing, that it looked pathetic. He helped his son get up the floor and gave him a bear hug, telling Zest that he was proud of him. His father gave Zest the trench coat that he use to wear and told him that it will be his way of staying close to him.
At the age of 27 is when things started to go downhill for Shinra. After he heard about the VR incident he wanted to see if Genesis was alright but the man was easily irritable. Angeal tried to tell him that everything was alright but Zest could see it in his eyes that there was something bothering him. Then one day they disappeared without a trace.
Zest didn’t know why they both disappeared, Genesis loved his fame as hero and a 1st Class SOLDIER and Angeal was proud of being a SOLDIER. Currently Shinra has them both as MIA, as strange as it was since he talked to Angeal a couple of days before he disappeared.
Things got worse when the General disappeared as well. Now Zest was assigned to help Zack Fair, Angeal’s student, to take control of SOLDIER. The kid is the new General.
Limit Breaks:
Gungir: Zest Gathers a spell from his bracer and shapes it into a ball. He throws it in the air and with his spear he slices it in the air causing the spell to shatter and hit the target
Zet Zamber: Zest’s spear gathers magic in his blade. The pole and the blade turn into a large sword in which Zest swings at the enemy creating an arc of magic.
Gae Bolg: Zest entire spear glows in a light blue energy Zest jumps into the air and throws it at the target. The impact causes an area of effect, damage varies on which materia is used.
Grenzpunkt: Zest spear transfers his energy to the blade’s edge to cut through almost anything.
A.C.S Drive: Zest zaps himself with lightning to give himself an extra boost in power. He rushes in and slams down on a target. It is good for one attack. A.C.S stands for Accelerated Charge Slam.
Railgun: Zest gathers energy to his right hand, in which then he fires like a small beam, the diameter of a Gil. The beam is made of concentrated MP energy.
Lightning Blade: The blade in Zest’s spear gather’s energy and creates a discharge. Which then courses through his entire body, it increases his attack and speed by 5% depending the number of lightning materia. It last for 3-5 turns depending on Lightning materia level.
Special Abilities: Lightning Rod: Zest began to experiment with lightning materia the most. He had several accidents in which he zapped himself with lightning magic. These incidents, which happened often as a Third Class and part of Second Class, combined with the mako in his body caused him to develop immunity to lightning damage. The scientist believed that his cells just adapted to the lightning, making a skin that can withstand lightning.
RP Sample: Zest walked through the halls of SOLDIER floor on his way to the new general's office. He was assigned to help the new general a few hours ago due to the instability of their missing Trinity. It didn’t sit right with Zest, what exactly was going on? With the war going on SOLDIER couldn’t handle this, it had to happen at the worst possible time. What could have happened to Genesis and Angeal?
“Good Morning Captain Grangeitz.” One of the secretaries greeted.
Zest nodded and continued on his way. He was thinking on the new General, the man was barely promoted to First not too long ago. The kid must have a lot of things on his mind with the disappearance of Angeal, his mentor, and now General Sephiroth. The kid had a lot to fill in for.
Zest let out a deep sigh. Now it was his turn to help the kid. He owed it to Angeal to keep the kid sane. To watch from the shadows and help the kid find the right direction for SOLDIER. Zest was now in front of a door; on the wall it had the name Zack Fair in those cheap plastic letters. It was time to introduce himself to the new General.
